Kingdom Living Greatness is Change and Humility

At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”

He called a little child and had him stand among them. And he said: “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”  – Matthew 18:1-4

Greatness according to the world’s perspective is recognition, fame, wealth, position and power. God’s view of greatness is totally different than man’s perspective.

Jesus wants to see two dependent events occur in your life. HE is speaking TRUTH. Remember Jesus is truth. The first dependent event is you must change. Change from what? Change from your selfish, sinful, prideful nature. Change is easier for a child than an adult. We have built rationalization into our thinking. If I change then what will happen to me? Jesus did not say to rationalize. HE said to change and be like little children. Change is living in the Spirit. Change is putting on the mind of Christ.

What are little children like? Children can humble themselves easier than adults. Children are easier to train. They are more obedient. Children will come under authority much easier than adults. Children are fearless. They have not learned to be afraid. They are willing to change directions. This is the second dependent event. Like children, you must humble yourself to enter into Kingdom of God.

The key to greatness in the Kingdom of Heaven is to change and become humble like the little child. Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

To experience being yoked with Jesus Christ is to humble yourself. Put on Christ’s yoke which is gentle and humble. You will find rest for your soul. Jesus’ yoke is easy and his burden is light.

Walk today in the greatness of being a child of God and the son and daughter of Jesus Christ. Love as Christ loved you. Forgive as Jesus Christ has forgiven you. Allow the gentleness and humility of being yoked to Jesus Christ guide all you do today.
